SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The San Francisco Fire Department is responding to a suspected vault fire at 150 California Street in the city’s Financial District Thursday morning. A shelter in place expanded at 8:30 a.m. to include 100-300 California Street and 100-300 Front Street, fire officials announced.

"The immediate area has been evacuated and the surrounding area has been cordoned off," SFFD wrote.

Firefighters initially responded to reports of smoke at 6:04 a.m. Four vaults in the incident area have experienced "eruptions" as of 8:30 a.m., according to fire officials.

Power is shut off to a limited number of customers in the area. Just before 8 a.m., the SF Department of Emergency Management told residents to "prepare now for possible additional power outages" as the "outage footprint may expand." The utility company is on scene assisting with the incident.

No injuries have been reported at this time, fire officials said.

The public is advised to avoid the area as a heavy response presence remains on scene.
