Sportingly, FC Basel is going through complicated years. Since 2017 and the end of their national hegemony, the Rhinelanders have only won the Super League once, it was in 2024-2025 during a season punctuated by the cup-championship double. A blow in the water given the results of this start of the season. FCB is in 7th place with 13 points in 10 days and has already changed coach once.
On the other hand, there is one area where FC Basel is doing even better, and even quite significantly, than all the other Swiss clubs. This concerns the promotion of players recruited in the last five years and not from the training center.
The latest weekly letter from the CIES Football Observatory highlights the clubs that best value players. The calculation is carried out as follows: “it takes into account the balance between transfer sums invested and collected for recruits already transferred and sums invested and current transfer values for those still owned”, specifies the CIES.
FC Basel has a positive balance of 150 million euros, which is almost 100 million more than Young Boys (57 million). The Swiss club is even doing better than some big names in European football such as Juventus (+145 million), FC Barcelona (+116 million), Arsenal (+110 million), Atlético Madrid (100 million) or even Liverpool (13 million).
And so, which clubs value their players the best? The answer may be surprising since it is Eintracht Frankfurt with a balance of 527 million. Real Madrid (526 million) and Paris Saint-Germain (490 million) complete the podium.
Conversely, Manchester United is the worst European club in this area with a depreciation of its players of 405 million.
